Geir Tore Holm, Poetic Passage

The lecture supported by Pikene på Broen.

Geir Tore Holm (b. 1966, Tromsø) introduces Cosmoscow Forcus section showcase this year five Norwegian galleries. Holm is interested in social relations, power structures and ecology, often related to his Sámi background. He comments on issues of changing identities and a High North that is affected by geopolitical and economic expansion; while addressing social responsibility and problems both with and within indigenous cultures. His artistic career is permeated by the creation of alternative spaces. In the 90’s he ran an exhibition space on the balcony of his house in Trondheim and in 2003, together with his partner Søssa Jørgensen and two Thai artists, turned an abandoned school into a meeting place and idea workshop – Sørfinnset skole / the nord land – revolving around seasonal activities of gardening, harvesting, hikes, construction work and crafts; combined with discussions, exchange of knowledge and tranquility. In the last decade, he has been based on a farm in Skiptvet, Østfold, where the forest and meadows, horses and gardening, home-grown vegetables and herbs and eggs are intertwined with his artistic practice.
