An experimental gallery from St. Petersburg is a continuation of the artist‑run project Kunsthalle Nummer Sieben, which has been active in the city since 2019. The gallery was founded by curators and artists Alexander and Liza Tsikarishvili, together with curator and former director of the North-West branch of the State Pushkin Museum, Daria Boldyreva. The gallery has participated in Cosmoscow 2025, Oberton 2025, and the international Tbilisi Art Fair 2026.
Sobo (Japanese for “grandmother”) is inspired by Japanese minimalism, Butoh‑Dadaism, and the ideas of cultural tropicalism. The gallery presents both emerging and established artists united by a shared interest in mixing artistic languages, time‑travel narratives, creating anachronisms and nonlinear temporal spaces, and escaping into distant cultures and worlds—imaginary and real. Sobo seeks ways to foster dialogue amid breaking-down language and employs micro‑research methods to examine shimmering, hard‑to‑grasp forms and ideas.
