Ivan Novikov. pop/off/art

Ivan Novikov (b. 1990) is an artist, curator, and teacher. Graduated from the Surikov State Academic Art Institute in Moscow, the Baza Institute, the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences, and the University of Manchester. Co-founder of the independent platform Krasny Center in Moscow. Member of the editorial board of the Art Journal. Head of the Department of Painting at the Baza Institute.

Novikov’s personal exhibitions have been held since 2011. Since 2008, his works have regularly appeared at leading Russian and European venues as part of group exhibition projects and international biennials. In 2015—2016, he was twice awarded a grant as part of the program to support young Russian artists of the Garage Museum. In 2017, he was awarded a grant as part of the patron program of the Cosmoscow Foundation. In 2015 and 2018, he was a finalist in the competition co-hosted by the V-A-C Foundation and M HKA Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp to purchase works by young Russian authors for the collection of the latter. In 2020, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art hosted Novikov’s solo exhibition “Against the Grain” as part of the Moscow International Biennale for Young Art. He was nominated for the Kandinsky Prize (Young Artist category, 2015), the Innovation Award (Curatorial Project category, 2016; Book of the Year category, 2021), and the Zverev Art Prize (2021).
