The State Hermitage has been cooperating with the European University at St. Petersburg for more than 20 years. The new stage of this close cooperation began in 2021, when the School of Arts and Cultural Heritage was established. As a new form of educational institution, the School expands interdisciplinary research by bringing together scholars and practitioners in the fields of art history, cultural heritage, and museum science, as well as specialists in artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics, and paleogenetics.
Educational programs and research projects of the School are focused on the study of both classical and cutting-edge disciplines and are carried out on the basis of the extensive museum collection and scientific and technical laboratories of the State Hermitage.
